Too LowAbout this run
The Tuolumne is the jewel of California whitewater — a 18-mile Class IV-V canyon run that has defined Sierra kayaking since the first descents of the 1970s. The T deserves every superlative: the canyon is deep, the rapids are relentless, the scenery is extraordinary. Clavey Falls alone (Class V) is worth the drive — a powerful 15-foot drop that demands your best line selection. Camp 9 to Wards Ferry is the classic run, and it remains one of the finest single-day (or overnight) whitewater experiences in North America.
Known Hazards
- Clavey Falls — Class V, 15-foot drop, scouts required, portage on river left
- Jawbone Rapid — Class IV, technical move through boulder garden
- Limited flows — Hetch Hetchy reservoir controls release, check TID schedule
- Remote canyon — TID does not provide rescue; self-sufficiency required
